BIG changes with the USDF "L" Program

The USDF "L" Program has undergone some changes that will open more doors to participants and organizers.

Here they are:

Part 1; 'A Judges' Perspective' includes: Sessions A, B and C.
Prerequisite: There is only one and that is you need to be a current member of USDF at the time of participating (so either a Participating, Group Member or Youth member)

* Part 1 used to include Sessions A, B, C and D1. Prerequisites included being a participating member AND a score requirements.

Part 2; 'Candidate's Evaluation' includes: Sessions D1, D2 and the Final Exam.
Prerequisite: 1.) You need to be a current participating member of USDF at the time of participating in the program. 2.) Three scores at 2nd level or above, at 60% or higher, from 3 different USEF judges at USEF/USDF recognized competitions. (Freestyle or Young Horse scores do not count towards the score requirement)

What does this mean for YOU? I was waiting for you to ask me that! ;-)

Well...

If you've been interested in the program and didn't have your scores you can now get in and then finish getting your scores before Part 2.

What if you are just interested in the educational component of the program, which is Part 1, but you want to participate not audit. Well, now you can!

Organizers will have more freedom in allowing more participants in the program, which helps the bottom line!

The USDF "L" Education Program is in the business of educating those interested in learning how to evaluate dressage performances at Training through Second Level and these changes were made with that in mind.

We look forward to meeting you at an "L" Program in the near future.

"L" Programs Brewing...

There have been a lot of inquiries as to where new programs may be showing up for fall 2009 or even spring 2010. So here are some areas that have shown strong interest in hosting an USDF "L" Education Program:

Region 8 - Maine - interest has been expressed for starting Part 1 as early as the beginning of 2010.

Region 3 - Florida - interest has been expressed and I believe they are in the scheduling stages. If organized I am guessing it will be winter 2010.

Region 7 - There has been interest in hosting a Final Exam, a stand alone exam, in early spring of 2010 for Southern California.
There was fairly strong interest expressed in Northern California, for a complete program, but I am not sure what stage they are in at this point.

If you are interested in attending an "L" Program but do not see one appearing in your area, I strongly recommend contacting your local club or USDF Group Member Organization. Ask if they would be interested in hosting a program and if others have shared an interest in participating in a program.

If you have any questions contact me at lprogram@usdf.org

Time Flies...

Well, where did the time go? It feels like we just had the USDF Annual Convention and now the Executive Board Spring meeting has just finished up. Yikes! I thought I had more time and now I find we are into Spring. I'd, personally, like to file a complaint about the clocks picking up speed, which is grossly unfair. When I find out who to file the complaint with I'll get that right out. ;-)

Well, the "L" Program has been actively updating the teaching material and handouts. Some of you may have noticed as you've been the ones to see and hear the new revised material at the last few sessions. And the "L" Binder has been updated for the 2009 year. I am working with organizers and our USDF Marketing department to get the word out. Soon you should be getting a notice from me.

I'll be back soon to share some more notices and updates about the "L" Program.

As always feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns, lprogram@usdf.org.

Enjoy Spring!!

Congratulations to our new "L" Graduates!!

GDCTA's "L" Program Coming Soon...

“L” is for Learning about Evaluating Dressage Performance . . .

Aspiring judges-to-be who wish to be participants in the USDF “L” program can sign up now! It happens fast – no dragging your feet for this program, or you will be left behind!

Don’t want to be a judge, but still want to know what the judges are looking for?

This is the time to find out! GDCTA is hosting the USDF “L” Program beginning in March.

Take advantage of this learning opportunity by auditing the very the same program that teaches prospective judges what they need to know. Auditors are absolutely welcome, and encouraged, to attend Part 1 of this educational program! You can attend one session, two sessions or all three. It’s up to you.

Part 1 consists of sessions A-C, which will be held at the lovely Shannondale Farm in Alpharetta, Georgia.

March 14-15, 2009: Session A consists of all Saturday and Sunday morning lecture, including thought-provoking questions, photos, graphics and DVD footage, giving an introduction to judging and biomechanics followed by Sunday afternoon spent observing demonstration horses and riders at Training though Second levels.

May 9-10, 2009: Session B will cover judging criteria for gaits, paces, movements and figures

July 25-26, 2009: Session C is about collective marks, equitation, rider biomechanics, basics and freestyle.

To make the most of your auditing experience, a little time spent reviewing the USEF rule book (usef.org) and the training scale in advance of the sessions would be worth your time.

Find the auditor registration forms on the GDCTA website homepage www.gdcta.org.

There is also a need for demonstration riders. That application can also be found at www.gdcta.org.

Auditor fees: $60 for each session, includes lunch and hand outs

Definite rumblings for another "L" Program

Okay, I know it has been awhile and I apologize. Many of you have contacted me about what, if anything, is happening in the way of new programs.

Well, I do have news for you. USDF received an host application from a GMO in Region 3, specifically Georgia. Currently, I am working with the GMO and potential organizer to get some details ironed out but I have hopes to share the news soon.

It would, if approved, start soon (March). If you are interested in the Region 3 program keep your eye out on this blog, the USDF calendar (specifically Region 3) and contact me for updates.

If this rumbling of a program still doesn't help you out contact me and I'll share some ideas to get a program started. You can also check out a previous post on this blog...think it was called "All dressed up and no where to go?"

Contact lprogram@usdf.org with any questions or concerns
